MP Expenses Visualisation (powered by SPARQL mSpace)

by jl2 on December 22nd, 2009

Here’s a small visualisation we’ve recently done with data made available by the OpenPSI project. The OpenPSI remit is:

Open PSI is a collaboration between the University of Southampton and the UK government, lead by the National Archive, to trial a new form of community provisioned information service that:

  1. uses Semantic Web standards to provide an integration point for UK governmental sourced information, and
  2. creates an interaction space between the governmental information publishers, the research community who need access to governmental information and the new form of information intermediaries, the mashup creators
The visualisation shows MP’s by geographical location within the UK, highlighting voting trends by area and displaying available MP expenses if required. The data is stored within a SPARQL endpoint, so this was a great opportunity to demonstrate the flexibility of the new mSpace SPARQL codebase.

There remain a few issues with the data (like duplications) but this was outside of our control and will hopefully be improved as the OpenPSI project progresses.
